There has been a huge tragedy. Medical professionals are increasingly exposed to such situations, to aggression, and they need to be better protected, but we do not want a security guard to stand in front of every office, Tomasz Dybek, president of the National Council of Physiotherapists, told Rynek Zdrowia. According to him, the solution may be to tighten the penalties for attacks on medical professionals.
- A doctor who was attacked on Tuesday, April 29, at the University Hospital in Krakow has died.
- A medic was attacked by a knife-man. The 35-year-old attacker was arrested
- As the hospital director said, it was a patient who was dissatisfied with the course of treatment.
- - Aggression against those who are on a mission to save our health and lives is barbaric - said the Minister of Health, Izabela Leszczyna.
- - Unfortunately, medical professionals are increasingly exposed to aggression. This results from patients' frustration, emotional state, and sometimes intoxicants - emphasized Tomasz Dybek

As he argues, penalties should be more severe in such situations because what is at stake here is human life and those who save it.
The head of the physiotherapists' self-government expects a strong response and systemic changes to increase the safety of medical professionals.
- In the amendment to the act on the profession of physiotherapist, which we will be processing, we will also consider the fact that a physiotherapist should be treated as a public official during work and thus have greater protection - he announced.
At the same time, he admitted that he did not want "an additional security guard standing in front of each office."
- After such a situation, I also have greater concerns about physiotherapists who go on home visits. There is no security or service person there, like in a hospital or a clinic, to help and react in the event of possible aggression from the patient - said Tomasz Dybek.
